Soccer in the Park

SOCCER IN THE PARK (SIP): Like past years, this is a time to “just let the kids play” small-sided soccer games (i.e. 4v4) in a fun and nurturing environment.

COMPETITION & STRUCTURE are kept low key. KIDS can agree to modify rules, change teams, mix ages.

FIELD MONITORS will keep an eye out for safety and encourage creative problem-solving. Think of it as a Soccer Festival: invite your friends next week, bring a picnic, relax, play, talk to strangers and make new friends.

PARENTS: SIP depends on your involvement. Please be available to your child and join in the play but keep instruction to a minimum. For siblings younger than 1st Grade please play with them on the side.

REQUIREMENTS: Every child needs to bring:

  • A big person you can turn to in a moment of need
  • Any shoes and shin guards (no baseball cleats) (The Soccer-Share-Box will be back so bring your clean used Soccer “stuff” to trade)
  • A cooperative attitude

RULES:

  1. Help kids younger than yourself have fun and stay safe.
  2. No Goalies. The 3-yard arc around the goal is “noman’s-land,” stay out of it. If the ball is touched by one team in no-man’s-land, the other team gets a free kick at 10 paces from goal. If the ball stops in the 3-yard arc, the defense gets it at midfield.

REGISTER & DONATE: Done on day you first play. Children must be accompanied by an adult while participating (No drop-offs.)

All 1st – 4th grade participants will receive a T-shirt at registration regardless of amount donated (while supplies last).

Meet a “Pro.” GFU and NSC players will “wow” you with smallsided exhibition games and juggling during registration time.

RAIN-OUTS: Check for cancellations and closures by 4PM at www.newbergsoccer.org
